Emma McNally - field 7-2

"Cartographic conjecture, emergent systems and experimental musical notation all coalescent in the space planes of Emma McNally’s drawings. The pieces, done with graphite on paper, are dense with interconnected and intersecting shapes - squares, circles and dots rhythmically layered to create dense three-dimensional spaces." "A virtual environment is alive and invites the inhabitants to change or affect its content. Unlike painting, photography, video and movies, which are by nature rigid, virtual space has an impermanent and free nature. It is less ‘heavy’ than traditional media and leaves room for humor and experiment. The trick is to deliver the content to the audience in such a way that these qualities emerge. When reality is simulated in a different medium, it being a painting, sculpture or another medium, it reflects on reality. The same goes for computer generated space. Because of a certain level of realism it reveals things about reality. How our lives are organized, our houses are constructed, cities have emerged, and space has been arranged." (txt: O. Stegehuis)

Robert Overweg - Break out (fallout 3)

"Robert Overweg sees the virtual environments of (First person and third person shooter) games as the new public spaces of contemporary society. He dwells through these worlds as the street photographer of the virtual world, documenting his experiences. He discovered a beauty behind the violence, where it normally is the goal to shoot each other in these worlds, Robert was grasped by the flickering sunlight, beautiful reflections and swarms of birds flying in patterns on ideal locations."
